Agra is northern city on the banks of the Yamuna river in Uttar Pradesh, India. Agra is one of the most-visited tourist places because of its heritage sites like- Agra Fort, Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Jama masjid, etc. This city exposes the heritage of India in one place. 

So here I am providing you a list of Agra Famous places that you must visit once in a lifetime:-

  • Taj mahal:-

Taj mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world and also listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. It is made by shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz who died while giving birth to his 14th child. Taj Mahal is one of the finest structures made by Mughals. Taj mahal represents the Indian, Persian and Islamic styles of architecture. Taj Mahal took  21 years to be constructed with over 20,000 laborers working night and day. Taj mahal is one of the Agra Famous places not only in agra it is also famous in across the globe.

  • Timing:- 6:00 am to 6:30 pm ( Closed on Friday )

  • Agra Fort:- 

Agra fort is made up of red sandstone and it is also listed as UNESCO world heritage site. Earlier Agra is a residence of Mughal emperors. Agra fort is spread over 94 acres its area is so big that it is referred to as Walled City. red fort is a good example of the Mughal style of art and architecture. It consists of many impressive buildings:- Moti Masjid, Musamman Burj, Diwan-i-Khas, Shahjahani Mahal, and Jahangiri Mahal. Visiting here is one of the top things to do in agra.

  1. Itmad-ud-Daula:-

Itmad-ud-Daula is built by Nur Jahan wife of Jahangir For in memory of her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg. It is also one of the Famous place in agra. It is also known as baby Tajmahal as its structure is similar to the Taj Mahal. The monument is embellished with Semi-precious stones and it has greenery all over. 

  • Timing:- 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Charges:-   ₹20 for Indians

  1. Jahangir Mahal:-

Earlier this palace is served as the main palace for Akbar’s Rajput wives and Later it becomes the residence of Jahangir’s wife, Nur Jahan. The main attractions of this palace are a huge monolithic bowl carved out of stone which was earlier used for storing rose water. It showcases Gujrat, Malwa and Rajasthan architectural style. Visiting the Jahangir Mahal is one of the best things to do in agra India.

  • Timing:- 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Charges:- ₹ 5 for Indians

  1. Jama masjid:-

One of the largest mosques in India “The Jama masjid” is built by Shah Jahan’s daughter jahanara begum in the 17th century. It is located in kinari Bazaar and it is situated opposite to taj mahal. It features striking zigzag marble patterning on its dome and it is also famed as “Friday mosque”. Jama masjid constructed using marble and red sandstone. Inside Jama masjid has fountains and airy courtyards. It is also one of the famous historical places in agra.

  • Timing:- 7:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm

  1. Tomb of Mariam-Uz-Zamani:-

Tomb of Mariam-uz- Zamani was built by Jahangir in honor of his mother and Akbar’s wife. The square tomb stands in between the Mughal garden. It is one of the famous tourist places of Agra. The outer structure of this Palace is built by red sandstone with the addition of mezzanine floors at the corners by the Mughals. The architecture of this tomb represents the Islamic and Hindu styles. This tomb gained popularity during the time of Akbar and Jahangir.

  • Charges: 5 (Indians and the citizens of SAARC and BIMSTEC                          countries)

  1. Fatehpur Sikri:- 

Fatehpur Sikri is listed as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites and it is also known as “city of victory”. It is a mixture of Islamic, Hindu and Jain style of architecture. Fatehpur Sikri is built by red sandstone and it is also known as “Sikri sandstone”. It is built by Akbar for sheik Salim Chisti when his prediction of Akbar’s son Jahangir came true. It is one of the agra famous places to visit.

  • Timing:- 6:00 am to 6:30 pm; closed on Fridays
  • Charges:-  ₹ 40 for Indians

  1. Taj Museum:-

Taj museum is visited by many tourists who want to know more about the history of taj mahal. The Taj museum has many other artifacts such as the ancient painting of Mughals, royal jewelry, and much more. The taj museum has made in 2 floors which has 21 antiques including- Mughal miniature, paintings, manuscripts, inscription samples and royal. Other than this You can also see arms, utensils, marble pillars on display in the museum. Visiting here is one of the best things to do in agra.

  • Timing:- 10:00 am to 5:00 pm ( Except Friday ) 
  • Charges:- ₹  20 for indians

  1. Chini ka Rauza:-

Chini ka Rauza is a tomb of a Persian poet named Afzal khan who was also a minister in the court of Shah Jahan. This is the first building in India that is decorated with tile’s work. It’s a brown rectangular building. Inside the tomb, it is decorated with the inscription of the Quran. 

  • Timing:- Opening 24 hrs daily
  • Charges:- No charges.
